What’s It Worth? 1986 Dodge Omni GLH ..80′s Style Econo-Car That “Goes Like Hell”

By the mid 1980′s Chrysler figured out once again speed sells. Gone were the days of Hemi Cuda’s and 340 Demon’s. The new Chrysler products were mostly based on small front wheel drive cars that were based on either the K-Car platform or the Omni platform.

That speed was not done the old fashioned way with raw horsepower but with lightweight and turbo charging Chrysler’s workhorse engine the 2.2 liter four cylinder. Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca called on his Ole Texas buddy Carroll Shelby to help with turning stoggy econo boxes into performance cars.

One of the creations from this Odd Couple was the 1985-1986 Dodge Omni GLH. As the story goes the GLH stand for“Goes Like Hell” and boy it did. With its low pressure turbo, high pressure fuel injectors the GLH could sprint from 0-60 in less than 7 seconds.

Driving all of its 175 horsepower was a re-worked 5 speed manual transmission. Suspension upgrades were stiffer springs and shocks. 16 inch Wheels and brakes were borrowed from the Dodge Daytona Turbo Z. With only 1500 per year built these very special car have been collectible from day one.

When production stopped in 1986 Carrol Shelby purchased the last 500 GLH’s from Chrysler and upgraded them to high pressure turbos and other upgraded to make the GLH-S “Goes Like Hell-Some-more”

Our feature 1986 Dodge Omni GLH is an all original example with a low 23,000 miles. Keep in mind it is not one of the 500 ole Carrol swept up so that will effect the value. Never raced it is look into Chrysler past when K-Cars and Omni owned the Mopar performance scene. WHAT'S IT WORTH >>>>
